Last night as I got home from a performance all of my children were still up and bright eyed, including my youngest who is just seven. I sat on the couch, exhausted, and put my feet on my husbands lap. As I looked around the room that I had just finally decorated that morning, I remembered that I had not put the nativity set in it’s correct position. I told my youngest to go ahead and do it. ...I didn’t pay attention after this point. I kissed the boys goodnight and headed to my room. Today, as I sat on the couch and started in on sewing some Christmas gifts, I looked at the nativity.

Sharon Eubank, the director of Humanitarian Services and LDS Charities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, received a standing ovation on 8 August during a speech titled “This Is a Woman’s Church” during the 2014 FairMormon Conference in Provo, Utah. Eubank’s remarks addressed recent press reports that allege “the Church is sort of oppressive, or that it’s stodgily conservative, or that it might somehow be a toxic environment for women to participate in.”

As General Authorities prepare talks and speak under direction of the Spirit, their words connect with many in deeply personal ways. Every conference some members feel a certain talk was written just for them because of its powerful and personal message. At the April 1996 general conference President Gordon B. Hinckley said, "I invite you to listen, listen if you will by the power of the Spirit, to the speakers who will address you today and tomorrow as well as this evening. If you will do so, I do not hesitate to promise that you will be uplifted, your resolution to do what is right will be stronger, you will find solutions to your problems and your needs, and you will be led to thank the Lord for what you have heard."
