The unemployment rate has just fallen one-tenth of a percent, from 9 percent to 8.9 percent. Of course, it is indeed progress, and it is being celebrated in the White House as such. But the celebrations bring to mind what a wit once said: An “acceptable” level of unemployment means that the government economist to whom it is acceptable still has a job. Today, as we move into the third year of the Obama administration, we do not have anything resembling even such an “acceptable” level of unemployment. Far from it. As of this month, 14 million Americans can’t find work.

I love news! There, it is out in the open. I have several news sites I visit at least once and sometimes multiple times a day to keep my fix. I was, for example overjoyed when I heard the news of a possible averting of all-out war in Syria. I pray daily for peace and speak to everyone I know to convince them of the futility of conflict and sin. The type of peace I attempt to sow in my corner of the country though is not that of a mere ceasefire or armistice by one or several nations, which lasts only until they find another reason to attempt to “stimulate” their respective economies via war, but the type given by the Master to His disciples in John 14:27:
They say that lightning doesn't strike twice, but for the Bingham family, it has struck three times. Three children out of the five born to Oregon residents Jason and Stacy Bingham have already experienced serious heart problems, and the other two are showing markers, according to the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. The Latter-day Saint family's heart journey began in 2006, when their oldest daughter, Sierra, then 6, was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. As her condition quickly worsened, she was placed on the transplant list and soon after received a new heart. While checkups, biopsies and tests have to be a regular part of life from now on, the Binghams felt relief at the time.
