49: “The Vision of the Redemption of the Dead” (Doctrine and Covenants 137–138)

Have you ever wondered what happens to people who die without a knowledge of the gospel? Or what about those who didn’t get a chance to accept it because of mental illness, physical disability, or other life circumstances? Chad and Kymberly Wells

Chad and Kymberly Wells are Utah transplants as of 2001 by way of California and Hawaii. They are the parents of five children with two who have already flown the nest. The three at home keep them hopping and running to various sports and activities. Chad works in the biotech field (cancer) and Kymberly is a part-time substitute teacher. When they have free time, they are often playing in the mountains or boating on some lake but they always try to put the gospel at the center of their lives.

Britney Mellen

Britney Mellen loves living well and sharing her passion with others. She enjoys food, music, nature and travel with her husband, three children and miniature schnauzer, whom she lives with in the foothills of Salt Lake City. She currently writes for Foundation Goods, a home design and decor destination in Salt Lake.

Kirsten Ward

Kirsten and Greg met at their babysitter's wedding when they were six. Kirsten knew she would marry Greg one day and waited 11 years for Greg to ask her on a date. Both Greg and Kirsten grew up in Los Altos, CA. They raised their daughter Rebekka in the Seattle area. And moved to Cottonwood Heights, UT when Bekka graduated from University and found the man of her dreams in Utah. Although Kirsten always wanted to grow up to play pro football, she graduated from BYU and went into global business development for high tech firms and currently works for Microsoft in global business advisory. She serves as a Relief Society teacher in her ward. And loves spending time with her family sailing small boats through transparent blue waters in tropical destinations around the world.

Mary Ann Cropper

Mary Ann was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she now resides. She served a mission in Japan and graduated in accounting from Brigham Young University. During the day, Mary Ann works as a partner in a CPA firm and serves on the governing board of her County's Interfaith Council. She loves to spend time with her 12 nieces and nephews, read good books, and travel anywhere and everywhere. She has served youth in ward and stake callings but most especially just loves to study and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Daniel Becerra

Daniel Becerra is a scholar of early Christianity and an assistant professor of ancient scripture at Brigham Young University. His research focuses on moral formation in ancient Christianity and in the Latter-day Saint tradition. He is the author or co-author of numerous works, including 3rd, 4th Nephi: A Brief Theological Introduction (2020) and Book of Mormon Studies: An Introduction and Guide (2022).

Dossan Bell

My name is Dossan Bell, and I’m 19 years old. I was born and raised in Ogden, Utah, where I learned the importance of faith, family, and hard work. Heather Robinson Burton is a grateful daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, and lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from Brigham Young University, and she currently works as an employment law attorney. An ideal day for Heather includes connecting with family and friends, and walking her three rambunctious golden doodles. Heather has a strong interest in female empowerment, and she looks forward to the day when mutual respect and equitable partnership between women and men is found on earth as it is in heaven.

Lisa Berente

Lisa was born in Tennessee to an Air Force navigator dad and an unsinkable mom. She’s number 6 of 7 children in a Christian family and eagerly joined the church with the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ when she found out there were living prophets and authorized temples on the earth again. She’s lived, worked, played sports and piloted US Air Force and commercial airplanes around the world. Lisa is a super fan of Jesus Christ, and believes gathering with her three children, son-in-law, grandson and her large family and friends is indeed the greatest, most worthwhile, joyful endeavor today.

We are used to different styles of teaching in the Church because we emphasize the doctrine rather than the ability of whoever happens to be teaching.
