In October 2018, our prophetPresident Russell M. Nelson made it clear how essential women are in building the Kingdom of God, telling the sisters, “We need your strength, your conversion, your conviction, your ability to lead, your wisdom, and your voices.”
In every aspect of Christ's ministry on earth and in heaven, women have held a prominent role as witnesses and receivers of His divinity and grace. Eve knew, worshipped, and offered sacrifices for the premortal Christ. Mary brought the Son of God into this world. The Samaritan woman witnessed Christ's first recorded declaration that He was the Messiah of the world. Mary and other women witnessed our Savior at the tomb after His resurrection. The angel Moroni showed Mary Whitmer the gold plates, allowing her to be a witness of their truth. Clearly, women hold a significant and sacred role in the eyes of our Savior and in His ministry. Camille Fronk Olson speaks of this role in her book Women of the New Testament.

This winter, one of our favorite reads comes to us from noted LDS figure Sheri Dew: Women and the Priesthood. Her book was so good, we simply had to share it with some of our friends. (You might know them, too: Emily Freeman, Fiona Givens, Brad Wilcox, and lots of our favorite LDS writers.) We asked each one to check out a chapter of this amazing book and write us back with their thoughts. And so straight from their pens to your eyes, we bring you their reflective and sincere responses:
Behold, the royal army with over 52,000 members. When missionaries are called to serve, they often feel like they are joining the modern-day stripling warriors. Whether they serve in Haiti or Houston, Australia or Austria, missionaries go forward with faith to serve the Lord. But almost any missionary will report that support and encouragement from home will make this service a little easier.
It’s interesting to me that LDS women don’t like to identify themselves as “LDS women.”
