The Church has recently announced missionaries will soon return to Puerto Rico nearly three months after the island was crippled by two consecutive hurricanes.
Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has taught that “family councils are ideal forums for effective communication to take place.” They are, he explained, a time to “talk about the needs of the family and the needs of individual members of the family, … solve problems, make family decisions, [and] plan day-to-day and long-range family activities and goals.”
Håkan Palm feels blessed to live a mere four miles from the first temple in Scandinavia and the only temple in Sweden. He served on the committee to find the wooded site about 15 miles south of Stockholm in 1981, was there for the groundbreaking and, as LDS public affairs director for the country and a member of the temple committee, organized the open house where an expected 2,000 visitors turned into nearly 50,000 before the Stockholm Sweden Temple was dedicated in 1985. Ten years later, he arranged for Sweden’s king and queen to visit the temple grounds and meet President Thomas S. Monson. Despite the impressive resume, it’s the value of the temple covenants to his posterity that matters most to him.

I saw this coming – the good and the bad – and you probably did, too. Last October, President Monson announced the change in missionary age requirements, and wonderful things have happened. There are more full-time missionaries serving that ever before, and more sister missionaries than ever before. Excellent, prepared, strong young men and women are all across the globe teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is awesome.
When I was a high schooler, I had one special quality that would drive my father absolutely crazy: I wouldn’t get out of bed on time. He would come into my room, and happily wake me, sometimes in Spanish, and tell me it was time to get up. I would mumble and stir and he would leave. I would then immediately fall back asleep. He would come back a little later, a little less happy, and a little louder. Same result. Finally, he would come thundering in – much louder, unhappy, and sometimes with a cup of cold water. I would get up, and ironically, be irritated at him.
When I opened up a can of freeze-dried (FD) Asian-style seasoned white chicken, I found large pieces, similar to precooked grilled chicken purchased at the grocery store. After rehydrating some of the chicken I tried it and found that it didn't have the strong Asian flavor that I was expecting. The seasoning was perfect and the chicken tasted great by itself. This got me thinking about some of my favorite chicken dishes and I decided to add some to chicken alfredo. It was amazing! In fact, I would recommend this chicken for almost any recipe.
"This is an occasion of great significance for members of the Church of Jesus Christ around the world," President Eyring said this morning, explaining the process of a solemn assembly.
After the devastating shootings at mosques in New Zealand, it can be easy to focus on the darkness in the world. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the negativity and hate that permeates every country and corner of the earth.
