At 2 a.m. one cold December morning, Matt Zavoral was among the last students in BYU's Harold B. Lee Library in the wee hours before finals week began. That's when he had an epiphany—and it had nothing to do with his six impending finals.

"I was kind of a wreck throughout the show over my imperfections, and it forced me to deal with them in front of millions of people," she says. "I can’t tell you how uncomfortable that was, how it kind of broke me. But strangely, that moment that tortured me then seems to be what people remember the most now, and with such generosity and fondness. It has taught me to embrace vulnerability. We all make mistakes. I just happened to make mine on live television. And just imagine, if that had never happened, I would have never gotten the chance to do 'Brooke White Stops and Starts the Classics”'on VH1’s Best Week Ever."

1. What was the most challenging part of being on American Idol? How were you able to maintain your standards there?

I was once asked if I would ever consider posing for Playboy magazine.

"Taking that two-year break to be a missionary helped me gain independence," Archuleta shared with Billboard. "I was submissive before. Now I put more importance on myself. Ten years ago I didn’t know if I wanted a music career. I thought I was going to finish high school and college and then figure out what I was going to do for a living. Now I understand why I want to do music and where I want to take my life."
