We are to gather Israel. One of the great purposes of our global missionary effort is to gather Israel from the nations of the earth.
This weekend youth from the Klein Champions area in Houston chose to get up early on a Saturday morning to do something unusual. After meeting for an early morning breakfast at the home of 16-year Rylan Hair in Spring, youth ranging in ages from 12 to 18 went as a group to the Family History Library at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Klein Road to search out names of ancestors.
President Gordon B. Hinckley famously focused on temples – helping them to grow in number from 46 to 124 in his presidency alone. He also asked that Church membership try to get to the temple a little more often. President Thomas S. Monson has continued this focus on temples and temple building, and today there are a vastly larger number of temples for church membership (140 dedicated, 14 more under construction, and an additional 14 announced). But temples are still sometimes hours, even days, from many church members. So we're curious – how often do you get to the temple?
Imagine being a child with a condition where you are as fragile as a butterfly's wings. On the outside, physical wounds prevent you from normal daily activities enjoyed by other children. Yet on the inside, your dreams are the same as any other child who loves, plays, learns and grows despite the pain and impediment caused by your condition. This is what Jamie Hartley, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Alpine, went through during her childhood, and she continues to live with her condition.

According to the website Google Insights, Internet searches for the word "Mormon" worldwide are at their highest level since late in 2007, when interest in Mitt Romney's religion during his 2008 campaign was at its peak. Volume is 88 percent of what it was at that peak. Doubtless, much of the current interest comes from the Broadway play "The Book of Mormon," the musical. (For those who haven't heard, this play isn't family friendly and, I believe, would offend most Mormons for its sacrilegious tone.)
In one of our most beloved passages of scripture, Christ visits the Nephites and takes the time to gather all the children around him to teach them, pray for them, and bless them one by one. The more I’ve studied this beautiful story, the more I’ve realized that this is not just an uplifting, feel-good story. It is a powerful teaching moment from the Savior that shows how He hopes we will treat His beloved little ones. Here are three things I have learned about parenting from Christ’s example with the Nephite children:
People have a lot to say about the Mormons these days, what with The Book of Mormon musical still going strong not to mention how Mormons are impacting the current presidential election. And there’s no short supply of topics or opinions.
