One of the things I love about Joseph Smith is how young he was when he saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. The Father and the Son appearing to a relatively uneducated 14-year-old farm boy isn’t exactly a run-of-the-mill experience. But does the uniqueness of that experience mean that only Joseph Smith could be that close to God?
What originated as a quick and simple way to stay in touch with family and friends over time turned into a distraction from responsibility and a way to escape the daily challenges of a stay-at-home mom of three young children. There would always be another reason to scroll, like, and post; and though I was usually passive on social media, I felt the pull of the “flaxen cord” and seemed unable to unplug on my own. Good intentions evolved into a bad habit of wasting time (2 Nephi 26:22).
In Matthew we read of wise men of the East (see Matthew 2:1-12) who followed a star to bring gifts to the child Jesus. The Bible Dictionary explains that these were not scholars or astrologers but spiritually sensitive and knowledgeable "prophets on a divine errand." God led the prophet Lehi and his family to the Americas. Is it not possible that He led other faithful Israelites to other parts of the world? We have the sticks of Judah and Joseph, but we will one day have the sticks of other tribes as well. Wherever the wise men were and whatever tribe they were from, they, like Lehi and Nephi, knew of Christ and were looking forward to His coming.
Dr. Candace Mcnaughton, a medical doctor and Latter-day Saint, discusses the pandemic, specifically addressing our individual responsibilities to seek information from the primary source.
Before his football career with BYU and the Philadelphia Eagles—as a member of the latter he also became a three-time pro-bowler—Chad Lewis served a mission in Taichung, Taiwan. Though his mission was difficult at times, it was while serving others in Taiwan that he learned some of the most important lessons of his life. It was also during those two years that he was convinced to walk onto BYU’s football team, beginning his prolific career in the sport. The following excerpt includes Lewis describing an experience he had during his mission:
Prolific LDS actor Scott Christopher is probably most recognized as the role of the investigator in the popular Mormon movie The Best Two Years, but he has also acquired sideburns and yellow teeth for a role as General Doniphan in Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration. Most recently, however, he's rubbed shoulders with a few Hollywood stars in the BYUtv original series, Granite Flats. As an actor, a bishop, a motivational speaker, a writer, and a dad, he had a lot of great insights to share with us in this Q&A.
Let me share one example of a divine signature that has special significance for me personally. This was a tender mercy in the fullest sense of the word tender. My father, typical of many other men from his generation, did not express emotion openly very often. In all my growing-up years, I can never remember him telling me or any of my brothers and sisters that he loved us. We knew that he did, because he was a good father. He read stories to us almost every night. He taught us to work and how to be responsible.

On a dreary or chaotic day, a splash of color can lift spirits and instill optimism in a way that goes beyond words. Though evanescent, chalk art transforms dull sidewalks into works of art, creates lasting impressions, and reaches thousands in a way more conventional styles of art cannot. No wonder many Mormon artists have found chalk to be a powerful way to share their beliefs.

There’s a moment in Back to the Future where Doc Brown explains to Marty McFly that the DeLorean time machine can take them anywhere, anytime, including the ability to “witness the birth of Christ.” That line of dialogue always stayed with me. What would it be like to stand and see the life of Jesus, the places He taught, and the miracles He performed? Some movies have done a decent job recreating it, but nothing actually makes you feel like you’re there. Until now.
