"Honesty is more than not lying. It is truth telling, truth speaking, truth living, and truth loving [. . .] Honesty is a moral compass to guide us in our lives [. . .] Honesty is a principle, and we have our moral agency to determine how we will apply this principle. We have the agency to make choices, but ultimately we will be accountable for each choice we make. We may deceive others, but there is One we will never deceive."
The following is an excerpt from "If Ye Are Not One Ye Are Not Mine," a chapter in the book, One in Charity: Talks From the 2016 BYU Women's Conference. In the excerpt, we learn just how we can grow closer to our Savior and become one with Him, ourselves, our families, and our fellowmen.
On the airplane home from my mission, I sat next to a young journalist. If you've seen the old Church video A Labor of Love, you can imagine exactly what our conversation was like. He asked me a bunch of questions about my experience as a missionary, I cried as I relived the previous 18 months, and then like any missionary hoping to cap off their mission's end, I gave him a copy of the Book of Mormon. A few weeks later, I got a Facebook message from this man who said he had been reading the book I gave him but was confused by 2 Nephi 5. I was embarrassed that even after having spent 18 months as a missionary, I had to do some research before I replied. But what if we actually prepared for conversations like this? What if we tackled questions like these in our homes and talked them out as a family?

I remember the first time someone in my family received the Priesthood. I was 14 and my younger brother was ordained a Deacon. About the same time two years later, when he became a Teacher, I began to take notice of a unique difference in the “feel” of our home environment. My father was Catholic and my Mother had been inactive for many years until we kids came along. There had definitely been a “void” I didn’t know existed. For years though, the “Priesthood” elicited an entanglement of ideas growing up while attending all the meetings in our LDS world and an occasional Catholic Mass.
The new Deseret Mill and Pasta plant, 20 miles north of Salt Lake City, Utah, was dedicated Thursday, February 26, 2015. It is a food production facility to provide some of the basic staples of life to those in need. Another important benefit, said Bishop Gérald Caussé, first counselor in the Presiding Bishopric of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is the opportunity for members of the Church and others to provide service.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed Saturday that it purchased 6,000 acres of Missouri farmland and three historical sites from the Community of Christ — the group formerly known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “The Church recently acquired operating farmland and several other non-farmland properties located in Missouri and Ohio from the Community of Christ," LDS Church spokesperson Scott Trotter said. "Non-farm sites include the Haun’s Mill and the Far West Burying Ground in Missouri as well as the Joseph Smith Sr. home in Kirtland, Ohio."
A. LeGrand Richards, stake president of the LDS Provo South Stake, is an avid cyclist. A few months ago he came up with an idea and on checking out the route discovered it was exactly 3.1 miles -- or a 5K -- from the Provo City Center Temple to the Provo Temple. So, as a way to raise awareness and excitement for the new temple and temple work in general, the Pioneer Day Temple-to-Temple 5K Run was born. The Provo South Stake is in the Provo City Center Temple district.
The other day I was chatting with a girlfriend in another state, and she happened to mention an 80-year-old woman in her ward who is the Young Women’s President. It reminded me of another senior sister I knew, with the same calling, who surprised the teenagers in her ward by going to their Mutual pool party—in her 80s—and doing a perfect jackknife off the diving board. Granted, she had been on the swim team in college, but they hadn’t known that.
Latter-day Saints in the United States overwhelmingly share the party affiliation of Republican presidential nominee and fellow Mormon Mitt Romney, but there are liberal-leaning members of the church who are finding their voice and supporting President Obama in the election. Crystal Young-Otterstrom, chairwoman of LDS Dems, an official caucus of the Utah Democratic Party, said the caucus met with other Mormon Democrats across the nation for the first time during the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
