"As president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I pray that we may increasingly call each other dear friends. May we go forward doing our best to exemplify the two great commandments — to love God and love each of his children," President Nelson said at the NAACP's 110th national convention. "Arm in arm and shoulder to shoulder, may we strive to lift our brothers and sisters everywhere, in every way we can. This world will never be the same. My dear friends, I thank you."
Speaking at the 2020 Mission Leadership Seminar, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland noted the seminar marked 176 years since the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother, Hyrum.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and his son, Elder Matthew S. Holland of the Seventy, both shared remarks during the October 2020 general conference. But is this the first time two related individuals have spoken in the same conference?
Here are a few uplifting messages from our prophet, Thomas S. Monson, that can inspire us to trust in the Lord, no matter who wins the election.
Purpose: To inspire children to respect and understand the role of women and girls in ancient days, and compare it to women today.
We’ve talked a lot about trusting in the Lord this year. And in this week’s lesson of Psalms 102–103; 110; 116–119; 127–128; 135–139; 146–150, that trust is an important theme. To help us dive deeper into this topic, we invited Chad and Kymberly Wells to talk with us. The Wells' are the parents of Mason Wells, who was severely injured as a missionary in the 2016 Brussels attacks. Their perspective on those harrowing events is anchored in trusting the Lord even through days of great distress and heartache. Their story, along with these chapters in Psalms, will teach us what trust in the Lord can do in our darkest moments.
Have you ever had an experience where you’ve been called to repentance and it was pretty hard to swallow? In this week’s study group, Tammy guides us through this sometimes confusing section of the Book of Mormon that covers a lot of different people, places, and timelines. We will dig into Mosiah 7-10 to learn from examples (both good, and bad) of people who receive course corrections from the Lord, through prophets, seers, and revelators.
The famed poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once penned the beautiful words, “Be still, sad heart! and cease repining; Behind the cloud is the sun still shining; Thy fate is a common fate of all, Into each life some rain must fall.” Longfellow is right—rain comes at different times to all of us. But his words also remind us that behind the clouds, the sun is always still shining. In this week’s lesson in Matthew 8, Mark 2–4, and Luke 7, we’ll read about when a tempest caught Jesus’s disciples unaware. And we’ll see that just as the physical sun always still shining, so too is the Son of God always there for us.
English writer G. K. Chesterton has been quoted as saying, “Art consists in limitation.” Could this principle be true outside of traditional forms of creativity?
