This lesson is a tough one. It is extremely long, and has a lot more material in it than a normal lesson. In addition to having all the normal information about President Benson, and the counsel he has for fathers and mothers, he also has 10 points he talks about for fathers, and another 10 points for the mothers. Covering this in just the space of a class period will take careful selection of the most valuable points. Don’t be afraid of the sensitive subjects, these will provide for lively conversation in class, and (spoiler alert!) possibly result in some personal growth.
Performed by LDS artists Garth Smith and Calee Reed, this stunning version of "O Little Town of Bethlehem" was filmed in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building on Temple Square.
‘Spiritual’ is not a characteristic one would think of to describe a football player and his coach on a Division One national college team. Yet ‘spiritual’ is the word that popped into my head as I sat in the audience of the devotional given by the BYU football team Friday, October 18th prior to their game against the University of Houston the next day. These brawny young men walked into the chapel with the confidence of gladiators, but at the same time had the humility of true disciples of Jesus Christ. I was impressed with their clean-cut appearance with matching tan pants and navy blazers sporting BYU’s ‘Y’ logo patch. For the opening hymn, it was an amazing site to hear them sing “Onward Christian Soldiers” as that is exactly what I envisioned them to be.

“What bravery! They died with their boots on,” remarked one of the Zapatista executioners [1]. He was reflecting almost respectfully on the surreal way that Mormon leaders Rafael Monroy and Vicente Morales had stood to receive the fusillade that pierced their bodies on the evening of 17 July 1915. The terror of facing an execution squad notwithstanding, no cowering, no begging, and no hysterics marred their calm and stalwart resolution to not repudiate their faith. The Zapatista commander had given them that option. The men responded by affirming their religious convictions, emphasizing that the only arms they possessed were not the clandestine military weapons they were accused of hiding in the Monroy family store but rather their sacred texts—the Bible and the Book of Mormon—which Monroy carried with him nearly all the time. Monroy was president of the San Marcos Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Vincente Morales, Monroy’s employee, was also his first counselor.
The words come from the war chapters in the Book of Mormon.
On July 28, 2016, Latter-day Saint Rosie Gagnon laced up her running shoes for her daily loop up and down the generous hills of Virginia’s Shenandoah County. The air was thick and soupy and the thermometer was begging for a break by mid-morning.
This beautiful building will not only bless the lives of those who enter its walls, it also is the fulfillment of several prophecies.
Sunday, April 29, 2012, was a historic day for members of the Church in Cape Verde (also known as Cabo Verde) as the first stake in that country was organized by Elder Erich W. Kopischke, Europe Area President, with assistance from his second counselor Elder José A. Teixeira. This island nation, located 350 miles off the coast of West Africa, has a population of about 500,000 and was a former Portuguese colony. Growth of the Church has been steady since the first missionaries arrived in early 1989, and today more than 8,000 Latter-day Saints are scattered throughout six of the nine inhabited islands.
