Latter-day Saint Life

The 10 most-referenced scriptures in general conference

This is fascinating. In addition to looking at the most-referenced scriptures in recent general conference addresses, Utah Valley 360 found that the New Testament is the most-quoted book of scripture.

In just one month, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from around the world will join together to hear messages from the leadership of the Church.

Conference begins with the general women’s session on Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. The following weekend includes four general sessions on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The general priesthood session will be on Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.

To prepare for general conference, looked at the general conference sessions since President Thomas S. Monson became the president of the LDS Church, April 2008 – April 2017, notating each verse by how many times it has been used. These are the 10 most-referenced verses in general conference.

Moses 1:39 – “For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.”

Mosiah 18:9 – “Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life.”

Doctrine and Covenants 20:77 – “O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it, that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son, and always remember him and keep his commandments which he has given them; that they may always have his Spirit to be with them. Amen.”
