Christmas

Song: "Away in a Manger" (Children's Songbook, 42)

Scripture: Luke 2:10-11

Quote:

As we seek Christ, as we find Him, as we follow Him, we shall have the Christmas spirit, not for one fleeting day each year, but as a companion always.

(Thomas S. Monson, "In Search of the Christmas Spirit," Ensign, Dec. 1987, 3)

Lesson:

Divide the family into two teams. Have each team number a paper from 1 to 7. Have each team write the answers to the following questions. Discuss the correct answers after all the questions have been asked.

1. Who visited Jesus the night he was born? (Shepherds.)

2. How many wise men were there? (Unknown. The idea of three wise men may come from three different types of gifts.)

3. Where did the shepherds find Jesus? (In the stable.)

4. How did the shepherds find Jesus? (The angel told them to look for a baby in a manger in Bethlehem.)

5. Where did the wise men find Jesus? (In a house.)

6. Who followed a star that led them to Jesus? (Wise men.)

7. What did the shepherds do after visiting Jesus? (Told others the things they had seen and heard.)

(Read Luke 2:1-17 and Matthew 2 for more information.)

Activity:

Decorate a Christmas box or basket. Make individual slips of paper with the following gifts. Take turns picking a slip of paper, reading the gift you can give, and putting the gift inside the box. Have some blank slips so each person can create their own gift idea.

I can give the gift of joy

I can give the gift of peace

I can share

I can be honest

I will help

I will give my love

I will be respectful

I will speak kindly

I will share my talents

I can obey my parents

I can choose the right

I can give the gift of love
