While Christmas time can be the "happiest season of all," it can also be a solemn reminder of loved ones who have passed on, lost employment opportunities, or many other challenges and heartaches.

But President Russell M. Nelson shared this inspiring message from his October 2016 general conference address about the one emotion Christ is always willing to give that makes the trials and hardships of life much easier to bear.

"Just as the Savior offers peace that 'passeth all understanding,' He also offers an intensity, depth, and breadth of joy that defy human logic or mortal comprehension," President Nelson posted on his Facebook page.

"For example, it doesn’t seem possible to feel joy when your child suffers with an incurable illness or when you lose your job or when your spouse betrays you. Yet that is precisely the joy the Savior offers. His joy is constant, assuring us that our 'afflictions shall be but a small moment' and be consecrated to our gain."

The gospel of Jesus Christ offers us the consummate gifts of peace, happiness, and joy. But to many, these eternal promises seem elusive, even unattainable. In his familiar, warm style, Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shares truthswe need to understand and embrace to truly have a life of peace, happiness, and joy.
