When Everyone Else Has 'Big' Spiritual Experiences and You Don’t

I remember hearing everyone talking about “a burning in your bosom”, being miraculously healed, or getting a giant check after paying their tithing and would wonder “Why doesn’t that ever happen to me?” I had felt spiritual promptings, sure, but it never seemed like I had anything worth sharing. In Sunday School teachers would always ask us to share a time when you felt the Holy Ghost and everyone in class would have a miraculous story about how they were warned of danger or received a moment of clarifying revelation, but I didn’t even have a story about finding lost keys.

If you feel like you haven’t been having big spiritual experiences when everyone around you seems like they get them, all the time, don’t worry. Spiritual experiences are tailored for you, including their timing. Some will be big, most will be small, and those small, day-to-day promptings will ultimately be much more important in sanctifying and consecrating your life. Alma taught that “by the small and simple things are great things brought to pass." The consistent and day-to-day small efforts you make will lead to profound and deep (great) spiritual experiences.
