Latter-day Saint Cliff Devries is the head diving coach at Rochester Institute of Technology. For nearly a quarter of a century, Devries has been partially paralyzed. Twenty-four years ago, Devries underwent an intensive surgery to remove a 6-inch-long tumor at the base of his brain stem, a procedure that left the right side of his body paralyzed. Yet in 2018, Devries participated in a simple birthday celebration that has been featured on ESPN. As Devries says in the video about this tradition, "From where I came from, it's magical. It's thrilling."
