Mormon in the Running to Become President Trump's Deputy Secretary of State

Former presidential candidate, ambassador to China, and Utah governor Jon Huntsman Jr. is in the running to become the next deputy secretary of state.

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman (R) has entered discussions about becoming the State Department’s second-highest official, according to a new report.

Huntsman emerged as a contender before a scheduled Monday-afternoon meeting between President Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the Wall Street Journalsaid.

U.S. officials told the Journal that a decision on the deputy secretary of State role remains unfinished and that other candidates besides Huntsman may be under consideration.
