State defends Mormon Church influencing Utah liquor laws

State attorneys argue that the LDS Church has the right to offer its views on liquor laws to the Legislature, whose majority is made up of members of the church, which asks its adherents to eschew alcohol. Utah also has the right to limit the number of restaurant and bar liquor licenses, and to outlaw discount happy-hour drinks, they contend in court filings defending comprehensive liquor regulations recently enacted by the Legislature.
