Here Are the Temple Square Performances Scheduled for This October

The following October concerts will take place in the Assembly Hall and Tabernacle on Temple Square. All concerts start at 7:30 p.m., are open to ages eight and older, unless otherwise specified, and are free. Tickets are not needed unless otherwise noted.

Friday, October 6—Del Parkinson, pianist, will perform in the Assembly Hall at 7:30 p.m. The performance will include classical pieces by Liszt and Gershwin and a medley of songs from West Side Story and The Sound of Music. Tickets are not needed.

Saturday, October 7—The Southern Utah Heritage Choir will perform in the Assembly Hall at 7:30 p.m. “How Great Thou Art,” a program of sacred choral selections by Dan Forrest, Mack Wilberg, Craig Courtney, Richard Elliott, and others. Ken Peterson, director. Tickets are not needed.

Tuesday, October 10—Thomas Heywood, internationally acclaimed organist, will perform in the Tabernacle at 7:30 p.m. He will play favorite classical pieces by Rossini, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Verdi, and others transcribed for organ. Tickets are not needed.

Friday, October 13—The American West Symphony will perform in the Assembly Hall at 7:30 p.m. They will present two dramatic and beloved orchestral masterpieces: Beethoven’s Overture to Fidelio and Brahms’s Symphony no. 3; Joel Rosenberg, conductor. Tickets are not needed.

Saturday, October 14—The Utah All-State Choir (UMEA Grand Festival), will present in the Tabernacle at 7:30 p.m. a program by outstanding choral members from high schools throughout the state. Concert open to ages six and older. Tickets are not needed.

Friday, October 20—The Fall Church Music Festival will be held in the Assembly Hall at 7:30 p.m. This program features a variety of instrumental and vocal works received through the annual Church Music Submission. Tickets are not needed.

Saturday, October 21—Lindsay and Blaine Hickman, vocalists, will perform in the Assembly Hall at 7:30 p.m. This husband and wife duo will perform contemporary musical theater solos and duets, including selections from recent award-winning Broadway musicals as well as movie musicals. Tickets are not needed.

Fri-Sat, October 27-28—The Orchestra at Temple Square will perform in the Tabernacle at 7:30 p.m. The repertoire for the annual fall concert will include Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 23 in A Major featuring Russian pianist Arsentiy Kharitonov, and Jean Sibelius’s Symphony no. 2 in D Major, op. 43. The concerts will be led by Igor Gruppman, conductor of the Orchestra at Temple Square. Tickets are required; for ticket information visit lds.org/events or call 801-570-0080. If tickets are not available, patrons are encouraged to standby for last minute seating. The line forms at the Tabernacle flagpole.

Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsals and broadcasts of Music and the Spoken Word

Organ recitals lasting 30 minutes are performed daily by Tabernacle organists and guest organists. Recitals are held in the Tabernacle on weekdays and Saturdays at noon, and on Sundays at 2:00 p.m., excepting September 30 and October 1.

Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsals are open to the public in the Tabernacle on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m.

Music and the Spoken Word is presented on Sundays (except October 1) at 9:30 a.m. in the Tabernacle on Temple Square. These 30-minute broadcasts feature the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra at Temple Square and the Tabernacle organ. They are open to the public ages eight and older. No tickets are required. Doors open to the public at 8:30 a.m., and guests should be seated by 9:15 a.m., when the doors are closed.
