How one early returned missionary relied on ‘toddler miracles’ to face doubt and depression

In a new video in the Church’s His Grace series, one young man talks about an alarming realization that came six months into his mission: “I didn’t believe anything. I didn't really have faith in anything that I was preaching.”

Speaking of his feelings as a foreign missionary in Argentina, he recalls, “I was trying to use the Spanish language, which I didn't know, to teach people about this gospel that I now didn't believe in. And I couldn't feel good about preaching something that I had no faith in. It really felt like God didn't care about me individually. Not for one single second.”

He remembers his next meeting with his mission president: “I didn’t ask for help. I didn’t say, ‘I’m struggling.’ I just said, ‘I’m done. I’m going home.’”

Watch the video to see what helped this missionary face his doubts and depression, including his realization that sometimes answers come in the form of “toddler miracles” instead of grand manifestations.
