Latter-day Saint blows away NYC jazz club with her ‘jazzy Jesus’ vocals

Earlier this month, Latter-day Saint Emma Nissen was invited to perform with legendary singer, songwriter, musical director, and producer Adam Blackstone at Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City. Her performance was nothing short of phenomenal and showcased her incredible vocal talent and range as a “jazzy gospel” singer.

During her performance in New York City, Emma also sang an original Adam Blackstone Christmas song, captured huge smiles from the audience, and even took over the horn player’s solo during sound check with her ability to sound like a trumpet with just her mouth!

Comments on her YouTube highlight video include, “SO INCREDIBLE, EMMA!!! What an amazing opportunity! Loved it all and CANNOT wait for Show Me How to Love is released -- whenever that is, I will be playing it nonstop. SO GOOD. Can’t get enough of Emma Nissen? You can listen to her on this week’s Magnify podcast Christmas special where she and other Latter-day Saints discuss the word that is on their heart this holiday season.

“[I] especially resonate with [the word] light,” she shares. “I served a mission in Sweden and the people of Sweden really resonate with nature. That’s where they find spirituality, [that is where they] find a connection with something greater, whether that is with the universe or with God. And so I ended up writing a song called “Light” that kind of marries those two things: how God holds us [but He] also holds valleys and mountains. And we take in light every single day. I really do think about light a lot.”

The Christmas special is also a unique musical episode and features live performances from Emma in her musical specialty—“Jesus and Jazz”—as she performs “Joy To the World,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and her original song, “Light”.
