Morgan Pearson is the host of the All In podcast, an interview-style podcast that has been downloaded over 13 million times. She previously wrote for the Deseret News where she published more than 480 stories. Her new book, All In: Exploring What It Means to Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ, shares what she has learned from interviewing over 130 people about their faith in Jesus Christ. Morgan is happiest when wearing sweatpants and will never get enough dark chocolate. She and her husband, Benjamin, currently reside in California's Bay Area.

When Stephanie Nielson, her husband, Christian, and six other Arizona Burn Center survivors reached the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, Stephanie walked over and showed her physician Dr. Kevin Foster a picture. The picture, Stephanie says, looks like an autopsy photo, but the woman in the picture was alive. She asked Dr. Foster if he remembered that girl. Of course he did—the picture was of Stephanie nearly 15 years ago, just a couple of weeks after a plane crash left over 80 percent of her body burned.

My grandma, Mom-el, loved funerals so much that we used to give her a hard time about browsing the obituaries for her next social engagement. It was a joke and something I honestly didn’t understand then, but over five years after her own passing, I think I’m starting to realize why my Mom-el loved funerals so much. When someone we love is gone, we can find joy in remembering the best things about them. Certainly, there are cases that require healing, but little annoyances are cast aside after someone has passed and all we seem to remember are the things we loved about them. I have found that I especially love going to a funeral for someone I admired but didn’t know incredibly well. Such was the case two weeks ago as I attended the memorial service for Ann Crane Santini.

Burn center that treated Stephanie Nielson following plane crash honors her with short documentary

Nearly 13 years have passed since a plane crash left 80% of Stephanie Nielson’s body burned. In the years since she has served as a beacon of hope for other burn victims and as a reminder to the rest of us of the value of life. On April 29, 2021, Stephanie and her husband, Christian, were honored by the Arizona Burn Center at Valleywise Health as part of their “Night of Heroes.” A short documentary about the Nielsons created for the event is now available to view online. In the video, Stephanie says it was seeing her eyes for the first time following her accident that changed her perspective and her outcome.
