President D. Todd Christofferson traveled to Mexico in May 2025. From a multistake center near the Mexico City Mexico Temple, he gave a devotional that was broadcast live to the surrounding areas.
A portion of his message from that day was posted to social media on October 3. In the clip, President Christofferson shares, in Spanish, his thoughts on what it means to be a witness of Christ.
“As you know, Apostles have the charge, or the responsibility, to be special witnesses of the name of Jesus Christ. Not of Jesus Christ, but of the name of Jesus Christ. I ask myself, what does it mean to be a witness of His name? I have studied it and concluded that it has a variety of meanings,” President Christofferson says (per English captions on the video).
He explained three possible meanings of what it means to be a witness.
1) The name of Jesus Christ can refer to His priesthood authority and power.
“I testify that His priesthood is His power, and the permission and the power to act in His name … is on the earth in this Church,” President Christofferson says.
2) The name of Christ can include His Atonement.
“I also testify of His Atonement and of the power of His Atonement, of the justice and the mercy that is in Him,” President Christofferson says. “We, as mortal beings, cannot understand the suffering that He endured, the cost, to put it that way, of His Atonement. But He did it. And this is my testimony.”
3) The name of Christ conveys the Savior’s identity as the Only Begotten Son of Heavenly Father.
“[He is] a divine Being. A God. The Son of God. Therefore, He has all power: in the world, in heaven, power to fulfill His promises. I … testify He truly is the Son of God,” Elder Christofferson says.
