President Dieter F. Uchtdorf dedicated a major new expansion to the Church-owned Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) on Saturday, August 29. Located in Laie Hawaii near the Laie Hawaii Temple, the new Hukilau Marketplace provides traditional Polynesian dining, offers native music and dancing, and creates a fun 1950s vintage atmosphere.

This new addition includes a 144-room hotel, providing many new work-study opportunities for students at BYU-Hawaii to fund their education, as well as jobs for locals. It also provides much-needed accommodations along the island's North Shore.

President Uchtdorf praised those who have made the PCC a success over the years, saying, "Your friendship, your kindness, your openness, your spirit of aloha is really what makes the difference" (quotes from the Deseret News).

He continued, “I want to tell you how grateful I am for each and every one of you, and how much the First Presidency appreciates everything you do. In this vast mass of water, you’re a wonder of spiritual power, of joy, of friendship, of love for your neighbors, and you have a radiance of goodness about you that is truly a marvelous example of what the Church and the gospel of Jesus Christ can do to us.”
