The LDS Church continued enhancing the Gospel Topics pages on its website on Monday, posting one titled "Plural Marriage and Families in Early Utah." The essay addresses plural marriage among Latter-day Saints between 1847 and 1890, when the practice was discontinued after church leaders issued what is known as the Manifesto. The new Gospel Topics page includes 25 footnotes, several citing research done by outside historians. It also has links to additional information.

Most people can’t mention the name Gladys Knight without including a reference to The Pips. Gladys Knight and the Pips consisted of her brother and cousins, and performed together from the 1950’s-1980’s. Their trademark song was the #1 hit “Midnight Train to Georgia,” which won a GRAMMY in 1973 for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Knight eventually parted ways with The Pips in 1989 and continues to perform as a solo artist.

New employment rules that went into effect at the start of the new year ban religions from sending even unpaid missionaries to the small corner of Europe. Thirteen members of Congress who are Mormon sent a letter to the Swiss ambassador, objecting to the ban and pleading for an exception.

Monson Saturday evening at the General Relief Society Meeting for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “My dear sisters, your Heavenly Father loves you — each of you,” said President Monson, speaking to a capacity congregation in the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City. “[His love] is not influenced by your appearance, by your possessions, or by the amount of money you have in your bank account. It is not changed by your talents and abilities. It is simply there."
The Church Historian’s Press today announced the release of the latest volume of The Joseph Smith Papers. Documents, Volume 4: April 1834–September 1835contains 93 documents, including revelations, minutes of meetings, and correspondence. Documents in this volume pertain to major events in early Latter-day Saint history, including the construction of the House of the Lord in Kirtland, Ohio; the publication of Joseph Smith’s revelations in the first edition of the Doctrine and Covenants; the calling of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; and the expedition to reclaim Latter-day Saint lands in Jackson County, Missouri.
