Doctrine and Covenants 29 tells of the signs, plagues, and disasters that will come before the Millennium. Reading them might give you a case of the Second Coming scaries, but not to fear. Because in this divine section, we are also reminded of who God is and how He cares for His children. When times get scary, we can always find refuge in Christ.

Rob Gardner: Portraying the Savior in Music

Rob Gardner is the composer of the well-known Easter oratorio “Lamb of God,” and the arranger of the Latter-day Saint favorite, “Savior, Redeemer of my Soul.” On this week’s episode, in preparation for Easter, we sit down with Rob to discuss what he has learned from composing music about the Savior. We also get Rob’s thoughts about what he believes those who knew and loved Christ during His mortal ministry must have felt and experienced during the final week of His life.

INTRODUCTION: The story of Joseph makes me think about what it really means to be free. During the early years of Joseph’s life, while he was experiencing the viciousness of murderous brothers and the solitude of slavery and the pain of imprisonment, his brothers were (1) committing murder [Genesis 34]; (2) committing immoral acts [Genesis 35, 38]; (3) plotting murder [Genesis 37]; and lying to their father [Genesis 37]. Which of all the sons of Jacob was most free? There are some lessons to be learned here. Part of the answer to this question comes as we consider who bows to whom, and who sits on a throne, and who lives with decades of guilt and remorse.

On this week’s episode, he shares the triumphs as well as the challenges of depicting the life of the Son of God.
