Manual 1; Supplement from "The Eternal Blessings of Marriage," by Elder Richard G. Scott
What a perfect way to bring our Savior into our hearts and our celebrations during this wonderful spring season.
MR says: We are so excited to sustain our three newest Apostles. Here's a little background into their lives, as well as their testimonies of the Savior and His Church.
The Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS) was founded in 1979 with the goal of fostering and publishing first-rate, cutting edge scholarship on the Book of Mormon and related subjects. Those involved in it during its early years were excited about the light that new research could shed on Joseph Smith’s prophetic contributions, and firmly believed that such attention would, on the whole, strengthen and defend testimonies. The vision was to combine academic training and rigor with a commitment to serving ordinary members of the Church. “Never,” counseled one very senior Church leader, “forget the Relief Society sister in Parowan.” FARMS would be both scholarly and, for a particular kind of interested Latter-day Saint, practical, even inspiring.
The holidays are here and ‘tis the season for parties, family, food, and the topic of weight loss and diets. Some people put too much effort into obsessing about the exact angle of their body in each picture that will make them look best, while others worry about how all the great food will reflect on the scale. To these individuals, it becomes all about a number, and quickly the joy of the season is crowed out by the worry of weight.
So what are the fundamental principles of stewardship, according to LDS belief? This list of five principles is brief and incomplete—and for now I won’t bother including all of the scriptural references—but I intend this to provide at least a primer for how we might begin to define our own stewardship more clearly. Suffice it to say, Mormon belief contains powerful doctrines about stewardship laid out explicitly in modern and restored revelation, and we dishonor these revelations by ignoring their relevance to the problems we face and by belittling the concerns about the health and well-being of the environment.
