Have you ever wanted to feel a deeper friendship with Jesus Christ? To not only know about Him, but to really know Him? Today's episode explores the idea that knowing the Savior and really understanding who He is takes more than being familiar with the facts about His life. And when we truly come to know Jesus Christ as not just a figure, but a friend, we are changed.

Through the years, temples have had direct or close encounters with brush fires, sand storms, tsunamis, blizzards, tornadoes, hurricanes/typhoons, flooding, and lightning strikes.
This is the first article in a three-part series on Jesus Christ's teachings about families found in the Gospels. Read part two, "The Miracle of the Fishes + Other Ways Jesus Demonstrated His Focus on the Family," and part three, "How Jesus Honored His Family Despite Complicated Relationships."
The last thing I saw before I shut my eyes the night before, a notification that said “bbyrge liked your photo”. When I open my eyes in the morning my husband is on the phone. I hear, “Bryan was killed in an accident…Dad are you sure?” I look into my husbands eyes and find the answer there before it ever reaches his mouth. Faces flash through my mind. My sister. My nephews and niece. His mother. His father. His brother. Bryan. As the sun is rising many hearts are sinking.
As a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I often served in rural areas where the dog population sometimes seemed to equal the human presence. Our mission abounded with dog stories. I mean these were nearly universally unpleasant but often humorous. Generally, they were not for the consumption of the dog-loving folk and I learned from my parents who became dog lovers late in life that criticizing nearly any aspect of our canine brothers can be perilous. I hope that the subject is not in breach of good taste, but given the season (missionary reunions, etc.) I thought it might provide a little entertainment. I shall offer a few fairly tame stories, but I suspect it may stimulate something more radical. I hope it does, actually.
If there is such a thing as a conventional LDS family, mine was certainly not it. My father joined the church when he was 18, along with his brother Dennis and sister Bonnie. He has been very active and has served in many church callings throughout his life, including everything from being a counselor in the bishopric and Young Men organization to serving as a ward mission leader. My dad is both devoted and faithful.
During the opening session of the 181st Semiannual General Conference this morning President Thomas S. Monson announced plans to build five new temples, ranging from Utah and Wyoming to Africa and South America. "The building of temples continues uninterrupted, brothers and sisters. Today it is my privilege to announce several new temples," President Monson said.
A youth conference in Alabama was taken by surprise this summer by the opening act of an up-and-coming singing group called the Redhead Express. Four red-headed beauties, with each playing their own instrument and with three of their brothers, dazzled 900 youths and their leaders for over an hour.
President Monson and his counselors, President Henry B. Eyring and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, addressed 53 new temple presidents and matrons on Wednesday, Oct. 16, during the first session of the seminar, which was held in the chapel of the Salt Lake Temple.
