This week’s Come, Follow Me highlights familiar scriptures for members of the Church. Doctrine and Covenants 89, known as the Word of Wisdom, is only 21 verses long—but there’s a lot to unpack.
Two LDS teenagers, Carson Glen Koch and Brayden Eaton, were traveling home from a Koch family vacation together on Saturday, April 7, when their car veered off the road and rolled on I-15 between Mesquite, Nevada, and Saint George, Utah. This week we dig into Doctrine and Covenants 135–136 to put the martyrdom in context as well as look at thoughts from early Saints that will help us see how we too can persevere through our darkest moments.

On Sunday, June 26, 2016, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and those of the Long Beach mosque held an interfaith service, according to the Long Beach Post. This service was held just two weeks after the Orlando shooting where 49 were killed.
Preparation: Obtain a flannel board and cutout pictures of a pioneer boy, a pioneer mother, a pioneer man, a campfire, and a wagon from Primary Visual Aids Cutouts, Set 7—Pioneers and the Restoration; a man from Primary Visual Aids Cutouts, Set 2—People; some pine trees from Primary Visual Aids Cutouts, Set 3—Nature; and a horse from Primary Visual Aids Cutouts, Set 4—Domestic Animals. Put tape or flannel on the back of each picture. Print out a copy of the picture of a cord of wood. (Note: as an option, you could print pictures from the Internet that help illustrate the story.)

“Pack up everything—we’re moving.” When you read those words, how do you feel? Are you excited? Or does your heart drop as you think of all the packing, cleaning, and organizing that moving entails? Maybe you feel a bit of both? Well in this week’s lesson, the early Saints are asked to do just that: pack everything up and move. While this move was challenging and full of hardship, it also came with many blessings. And as we dig into Doctrine and Covenants 37–40, we’ll learn how the Lord asks us to move spiritually and what blessings we receive as we obey.
