My great-grandfather, Robert Hill, passed away just a month after my eighth birthday, so I have mostly faint memories of him from my childhood. I knew him as a tough, old Idaho farmer who lost the three middle fingers on one of his hands in a farm accident. A favorite scene on our visits to my great-grandparent’s Ucon, Idaho, farm was watching him retrieve little candies—he called them “hummingbird eggs”—from his candy jar using just his thumb and pinky finger. He would pass out the candies to all the grandkids.

The world always clamors for our attention. As covenant women, we have to be diligent with how we spend our time and the things we work for and involve ourselves in. In order to stir up contention and to divide us, individuals, the media, and social groups engage in divisiveness and the politics of destruction to get Latter-day Saint women to contend with each other. So I asked over 100 friends and acquaintances what Mormon women want. Is it material things, or mostly things of a deeper nature? Although, I will not argue with my friend who said she’d like a nap and someone else to pick up the house once in a while, most of my friends indicated that they want spiritually lasting things over the things of this world.

Many years ago, as a brand new manager, I traveled to South America to attend an important work seminar held by high-ranking officials of the government agency I worked for.

In all of life’s activities, most of us fall into one of two categories: those that act and those that watch. It’s hard to imagine someone dreaming being in the stands for a great game or a great show, but to be on the field or in the middle of the activity would be the chance of a lifetime. Are you dreaming of an Alaska Vacation? Surely in this case, you’ll want to be a player and not a spectator. Maybe this would be your first visit, or you could be an annual visitor with a desire for an “off the beaten path” experience. The devil is always in the details when it comes to pulling the trigger on, what for most people, is a sizable travel and leisure expenditure. We are all about making your dreams come true without spending top dollar for what might not be your best value. When its time to make the homeward journey, you want to leave Alaska wondering how to make a return trip, and not so worried about what you may have missed.
