Everyone is suffering a little from Star Wars fever right now. But Mormons especially. Here's one Washington Post writers take on this phenomenon.
As members of Christ’s restored Church, we have the covenant responsibility to search for our ancestors and provide for them the saving ordinances of the gospel. They without us cannot “be made perfect” (Hebrews 11:40), and “neither can we without our dead be made perfect” (D&C 128:15).
An adorable new animated video produced by the Church begins by asking a powerful question: “Why is it that taking time to care for oneself is so often considered to be a selfish act?”
“I don’t think there’s a day that goes by that we don’t think about our experience in Baltimore.”
Some time ago I blogged about a new seminary manual on the Doctrine and Covenants released by the Church. The manual is significant because it includes discussions of sensitive topics related to Church history, such as the multiple accounts of the First Vision, the Mountain Meadows Massacre and the Utah War, the history of plural marriage, and the history of the priesthood ban. It appears that by including these topics the Church is taking steps towards more transparency when it comes to its history and "inoculating" its young members who are likely to encounter antagonistic websites that can easily blindside them with these issues if they aren't prepared.
The Joseph Smith Papers Project is a collection of primary Joseph Smith documents that is invaluable to American history scholars, Mormon history scholars, and of importance to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The latest volume, Histories, Volume 1: Joseph Smith Histories, 1832–1844 (Church Historian’s Press, $54.95), contains a number of highly readable and compelling historical narratives, some familiar to Latter-day Saints and historians, and some not well-known. The much-anticipated volume will be available March 19 at Deseret Book and select other retailers. Highlights from the volume include accounts of Joseph Smith’s earliest heavenly manifestations, the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, the organization of the church, the conferral of priesthood authority, the events leading up to Joseph Smith’s imprisonment in Missouri, and other events from early Latter-day Saint history.
Like many things in 2020, BYU Education Week is moving to a virtual format this year.
Elders Mason Wells and Joseph Empey received a wonderful surprise Wednesday when Elder Dallin H. Oaks and Elder Brent H. Nielson, the executive director of the Missionary Department, visited the mission companions at the University of Utah medical center.
What are some of the harmful myths we unconsciously spread in the Church about sisters and serving a mission? Here are three for starters: 1) marriage is more important than a mission, 2) sisters aren't as essential or effective as elders, and 3) because sisters don't hold the priesthood, they don't have power. Read on to find out why these are completely untrue.
Benjamin Taylor had a routine—and it wasn’t one he wanted to keep up. He had held six different jobs over the course of six years, and none of them had worked out.
