Throughout November, 9 of the 15 apostles have had ministry assignments around the world. Find out where and what messages they’ve shared.
In this two-part podcast, Mormon Matters host Dan Wotherspoon and panelists Gina Colvin, Charles Harrell, and Chris Cobb take on all of these issues, and much more. Are there different, healthier ways to view the question of Mormon teachings and doctrinal discourse? Is doctrinal presentation, especially in Church curriculum, a straightforward process of teaching truth, or is there much more at play–assumptions (cultural, Western, cognitive, gendered, and countless other types) motivating what is selected as more or less important? The panel explore what it means when leaders might say that this or that doctrine is “binding” upon members and whether or not it is actual “doctrines” that are canonized or simply sources (scripture) that are granted authoritative power–and, as is evident about any scripture, whatever doctrines might be offered therein call always to a wonderfully wide spectrum of interpretation? The panel also explores whether we might be in a moment within Mormon development when doctrines are being scaled back, when less emphasis is being placed upon teachings and more on community, doing good in the world, “becoming” better Christians/human beings.
More than a thousand youth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Denton, Parker and Tarrant Counties danced the night away at the West Regional LDS Prom held April 9, at Celebrations in Highland Village. At first glance the prom was like any other prom in any other age. Young ladies wearing, what for many were their first evening gowns, transformed into beautiful princesses escorted by dashing young men only slightly ill at ease in their many hued tuxedos. High heels pinched dainty toes and young men tugged at over tight ties. Some came in limos and some in the family car. There was music and dancing, food and laughter. No doubt some fell in love and some hearts were broken in that elaborate and awkward and beautiful and timeless way of youth.
In a recent Mormon Newsroom video, a victim of Hurricane Harvey describes her desperate prayer and the answer she received minutes later: "God is so awesome and good. Right after a prayer, and I said, 'Lord just send me some help because I am so tired,' and one of the gentlemen called [from Mormon Helping Hands] and here they are doing an awesome job."
Following are statements from leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on LGBT topics:

Instead of choosing between faith and reason, truth within the restored gospel and truth in the wider world of God's children, learn how to seek “anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report.”
