Deseret News: How would you characterize Mormon/evangelical relations today? Land: Better than they used to be and, I think, still developing. To some degree (members of the) LDS Church have to get used to the fact that the majority of evangelicals are not going to accept them within the framework of orthodox, Apostles' Creed Christianity. And I think that evangelicals have got to accept the fact that the LDS Church is a tremendous ally and fellow combatant against the things that are the most threatening to us in America. People of all faiths had better stand together, because the secularists are after us. .... When it comes to religious freedom, we all hang together or we all hang separately. We are common targets in this. The secularists are out to circumscribe our constitutional rights.

Monson, eulogized her mother today at Sister Monson's funeral in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. Ann said her mother was one who "deeply loved" her parents, family, the gospel of Jesus Christ and her husband, President Monson. "It has been said that listening is an act of love," Ann said. "Mother must have loved me and Dad a lot because she listened to us a lot. ... Each of us grew up knowing we were deeply loved."

It is almost as if Rodney Stark had taken up the ultimate "set a date" missionary challenge — by the time 2080 rolls around, 267,452,000 people will be Mormons. "Set a date" refers to a common practice among members the LDS Church to make goals to introduce someone to their faith by such-and-such a date. But it wasn't a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who made this prediction.
