The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) has released renderings of the Hartford Connecticut and Indianapolis Indiana Temples, as well as the site location of the Hartford Temple. The proposed plans call for the Hartford Connecticut Temple to be built at 1024 Farmington Avenue in Farmington, Connecticut. The Indianapolis Indiana Temple site (in the city of Carmel on the southwest corner of the intersection of W116th and Spring Mill Road) was announced in January 2011
After his junior year at Brigham Young University, Nick Walter, now 25, landed a great summer internship in the Seattle office of Pariveda Solutions, a Dallas-based tech consulting firm. Though he enjoyed the work and liked his clients and colleagues, he felt stifled. Used to jeans and t-shirts, he didn’t like wearing khakis and polo shirts and most of all, he says, “I hated that I had to be at this office every day for X amount of time doing what they said I had to do.”
Elder Vaea is rarely seen not sporting his big Tongan smile. Growing up in the Pacific islands, he related well to the people of the Island people of the West Indies, where he was called to serve as a missionary. However, it wasn’t always easy for the Elder who, unknown to his companions, quietly suffered with health issues.
The employment missionaries also visit Church congregations to offer resources available through ERS. One visit attracted Vivian, a Chinese Church member who attended employment workshop sessions, including classes to provide confidence in speaking English. Because Vivian had dog-grooming experience, Sister Hancock found a grooming job where Vivian applied. She was interviewed and received employment.
A visiting teaching lesson on family history and a determined visiting teaching partner helped two sisters reunite after 66 years of separation. Dixie Lee Trotter Minson was 10 years old when her stepfather and the father of her siblings, whose last name was Wright, walked out on the family. In January 1947 her mother, in desperation, took her and her five siblings to her in-laws’ home and asked for help.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will visit five cities on the Atlantic Coast next summer — their first visit to most of the region in over a decade. The tour will include stops in Bethesda, New York City, Saratoga Springs, Bethel Woods and Boston from 24 June through 7 July 2015 and will feature the 360-voice world-renowned choir and 68 members of the Orchestra at Temple Square.
Florida Governor Rick Scott toured the new Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with members of Florida’s congressional delegation, American Jewish Committee leaders in south Florida and local religious leaders. Governor Scott visited the temple during an open house with Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and his wife, Sister Mary Cook, on Friday, 18 April, 2014.
The Constitution State will see an exciting event this weekend as the open house for the first temple in Connecticut begins September 30 and will run through October 22, with the dedication scheduled for November 20. (For reservations, visit templeopenhouse.lds.org.)
