To be an ensign or banner to the nations of the earth, the Lord’s church must first become visible and known to the nations of the earth. This process of becoming visible to move the work of God forward among all the people of earth was part of President Hinckley’s work. This work started while on his mission and continued to the day of his death.

On September 4, Mother Teresa was declared a saint in a canonization Mass held by Pope Francis in the Vatican. This humble and selfless nun dedicated her life to serving the poor and inspired millions around the world, including LDS Church leaders. Here are four times they mentioned her in their talks.

Björn Bauerfeind has vivid memories of being a Latter-day Saint in East Germany, where his “faithful parents far behind the Iron Curtain” were serious about serving the Lord in an area where government officials closely watched the Church. Every Sunday, his parents, Dieter and Ilse Bauerfeind, took him, his sister, and two brothers to attend church, about 40 miles (64km) from their home in Stendal. “The Rathenow Branch consisted of 10 Church members, including our family,” said Brother Bauerfeind. “Branch President Ferenz, a 91-year-old man, never missed a single meeting either. Contact with other Church members was very limited due to long distances to other Church units. As a little child, sometimes the thought, ‘What a lonely bunch of Mormons,’ crossed my mind. What I did not realize back then was how many blessings the Lord had in store for us for the future. We would live to see many of the promises made by servants of the Lord become reality.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will restore a historic site in Pennsylvania that played a significant role in the growth of the Church from humble beginnings to a worldwide faith with 14 million members. Formerly known as the town of Harmony, the site is in Oakland Township in Pennsylvania near the present-day town of Susquehanna. This site is important to Latter-day Saints as the location where Joseph Smith received the Aaronic Priesthood at the hands of John the Baptist and, in a nearby location, received the Melchizedek Priesthood from Peter, James and John in 1829. These men appeared as angels to restore to the earth the same authority they had received from Jesus Christ. The site is also significant as the place where Joseph Smith translated much of the Book of Mormon. These events laid the foundation for the restoration of the original Church established by Christ Himself.

In English, LDS prayer language is distinct from everyday speech. We reserve a special vocabulary for communing with the Lord that reflects the language of the Kings James Bible. In place of more common words like you and your, prayers use the more archaic terms like thee and thine.
