“Gone are the days when a student asked an honest question and a teacher responded, ‘Don’t worry about it!’ President Ballard said during the 2016 announcement for the updated seminary curriculum, doctrinal mastery. “Gone are the days when a student raised a sincere concern and a teacher bore his or her testimony as a response intended to avoid the issue. Gone are the days when students were protected from people who attacked the Church.”
I absolutely do not like the nickname “the Tattooed Mormon.” I would never call myself that and prefer that others would not refer to me as that either. (But I promise I won't get mad at you, either haha). I think talking about what is on my skin is completely irrelevant to where I am now in life and what I want the focus of my efforts to on—how real and incredible the gospel is and how to use it in our lives. A delightful full-length feature film about a turn-of-the-century Western town in desperate need of a Christmas miracle is releasing on DVD on November 3.
For Scott Barrick, general manager of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, it came as no surprise to see Salt Lake City and Provo as top Spotify listener locations for the Choir’s new recording of the Star Wars song, “Duel of the Fates.” What was surprising were some of the other locations topping the list: Instanbul, Taipei, London, New York City, Madrid, and Sydney.
Mitt Romney affirmed the centrality of his Mormon beliefs during an interview Tuesday on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight show. Morgan initiated a conversation with Romney about religion by showing his guest a recorded clip from the 2008 presidential campaign wherein Romney said, "I believe in my Mormon faith. … Some believe that such a confession of my faith will sink my candidacy. If they're right, so be it."
Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson, Young Women general president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, discussed the impact of faith on the lives of girls with other youth religious leaders during a 90-minute panel discussion at the 2014 Girl Scouts Convention held Thursday, 16 October 2014, in Salt Lake City. The session was titled “Faith in Action: Understand the Impact of Faith on Girls’ Lives and on Their Communities.”
In his response to the mass shooting in Aurora, Colo., Mitt Romney offered a rare glimpse into his Mormon religion – one of those public moments for the man who would be the nation’s political leader but who so far has been very private about his personal faith. “Today we feel not only a sense of grief, but perhaps also of helplessness,” Mr. Romney said. “But there is something we can do. We can offer comfort to someone near us who is suffering or heavy-laden. And we can mourn with those who mourn in Colorado.”
A doe-eyed 19-year-old gets off of a flight from Utah having landed in Tallahassee. This young man has arrived in a strange city to begin his first day as a Mormon missionary. Having said goodbye to his family and friends, he has been sent to Tallahassee to share the message with strangers young and old of the Mormon faith. As apprehensive as this young man might feel about beginning this new chapter in his walk with the Mormon faith, his missionary work probably couldn’t come at a better time when people are more aware of the Mormon faith than ever before.
