Lately I’ve been tormented by something stupid that I wrote on a friend’s Facebook wall that I meant to personal message her. It wasn’t anything mean and didn’t involve any other specific person, but I expressed frustrations that didn’t belong on Facebook and that I didn’t even belong in a personal message but should have stayed in my own heart. I’ve been tormented by this post of mine because it did involve possible future employment for me, and I can’t stand thinking that I may have jeopardized that with a thoughtless post.

This hymn by Janice Kapp Perry came in first place with 709 votes. But it isn’t the first time it’s won a contest. When Sister Perry wrote it for a song contest in 1980, it won first place! It was the first counter-melody song (two separate melodies overlayed with each other) that she wrote, but it wouldn’t be the last. She went on to write other beloved songs like “A Child’s Prayer” and “We’ll Bring the World His Truth.”
A distraught teenager sought to leave his troubles behind and find relief in the US. He would not only find peace in the gospel but also help introduce it to South Dakota.
Some time ago I was traveling for business. My hotel was just a couple of miles from the local temple. One morning, I committed to go to the temple after work. However, work was very, very long that day. I saw dozens of clients in a stressful, fast-paced environment that left me emotionally and physically drained. I headed back to my hotel that night, looking forward to some time to decompress. I walked into my hotel room and saw my temple bag sitting on the bed. What should I do? I knew the Lord would forgive my weakness if I didn’t go, but also knew I’d be blessed for going. After a short deliberation, I changed my clothes, grabbed the bag and headed to the temple.
In Northern California, the image of Mormon missionaries in dark suits and white shirts, knocking on doors at inconvenient times, is being replaced by the sight of these name-tag-wearing twosomes in blue jeans and T-shirts, hoeing gardens, scrubbing off graffiti, dishing out food in homeless shelters and reading with refugees.

Audiences first saw Hair Love when at the theaters to see The Angry Birds Movie 2. It continued to grow in popularity once it was posted on YouTube and has since garnered nearly 19 million views. And now, the animated short film has won an Oscar.
I’ve tried. I have really tried. I have marshalled all my self-righteous bluster and vast knowledge, and I still can’t do it. I’m pretty orthodox, as orthodoxy goes, so it seems I should be able to – it kind of makes sense. My brain tells me I should be able to… but I just can’t bring myself to do it. Believe me, I’ve tried, but I can’t. I can’t hate Halloween. I’m sorry to disappoint some of you.
