Another general conference came and went this past weekend, but many of the messages we heard will remain with us. We celebrated Easter by hearing testimonies of Jesus Christ from speakers who represented every populated continent on earth. We celebrated together as temples were announced around the world. And we heard calls for kindness that will hopefully influence how we engage with others moving forward.
If you have the time and the inclination, review the following scriptures: Exodus 14:1–4; 16:2–3; 17:1–4; Numbers 11:4–6, 18–20; 14:1–4; 20:3–5;21:5. In each of these verses, Israel longs for the good things of Egypt, for an opportunity to return her slime pits. You with young children might have experienced something like this. I know I made life miserable for my parents on a couple of occasions when they took me to visit distant relatives and I did not want to go. My constant complaining and incessant review of the things I was missing at home must have filled them with indignation. The Lord seems to have had some of those same feelings about the children of Israel during their backward-looking journey to the Promised Land.
Garett Bolles stood on a curbside in Lehi, Utah, all his belongings scattered around his feet in a few duffle bags and cardboard boxes. Tears stained his cheeks as the realization hit: He had no place to go. Suddenly homeless at 18, Garett didn’t know what to do with his life, let alone where he’d sleep that night. That’s when Greg Freeman pulled up next to the 6' 5" teen, unable to miss the imposing figure. Not knowing what else to do, Greg loaded Garett’s belongings into his car, not understanding this simple moment would change all of their lives forever.
For many Latter-day Saints, leaving Ukraine meant bidding farewell to loved ones remaining behind and beginning a very foreign journey with an unknown future.

When the pandemic hit in early 2020 and people around the world began spending weeks in their own homes, The Chosen was made available for free online. For a show that relies on crowdfunding, the decision may have seemed questionable, but the show’s executive producer Derral Eves, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, told KSL that even with the decision to make the show available to anyone free of cost, it brought in enough money to fund the show’s entire second season.
Fun
The pandemic might have altered the usual festivities this year, but that didn’t stop Latter-day Saints from making the most of the holiday. From spooky to hilarious—not to mention some appropriately 2020-themed costumes—these social posts from Halloween celebrations past and present are sure to impress.
As a recent RM and a young Relief Society president at BYU in October 2012, I watched the missionary age change announcement transform the entire dynamic of my ward. Many of the 19-year-old sisters’ lives were turned upside down. Suddenly, many were eligible to serve a mission right then.
After 85 years, Jamiyah Singapore, a Muslim missionary and welfare organization, invited a children's choir from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to participate in one of its signature charity events in its calendar—an event where the president of Singapore would be in attendance. And the event was only weeks away, making the feat seem impossible to many.
After a statement from President Russell M. Nelson last week called for people to refer to the full name of the Church and refrain from using the term "Mormon," media outlets across the nation have claimed, "It can't be done." In response, President Nelson said, “I know it can’t — but it’s going to be, because the Lord wants it that way. . . . We know that it’s going to be a challenge to undo tradition of more than 100 years. And we don’t have all the answers. All we know is the Lord has said, ‘Thus shall my church be called …. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.' That’s enough for me.”
