Exactly two years ago to the day, I went to the Provo Temple and got endowed. It wasn't because I was going on a mission, and it wasn't because I was getting married, (not saying those aren't awesome and just as important reasons, just as long as you're going for you and for the right reasons) I went because I wanted to go on my own, I went because it was individually really important to me. I went because I wanted to be closer to God and strengthen my relationship with Him. Two weeks later, I became an ordinance worker. Since then, and aside from the nights I worked there, I have been to the temple at least every week since this day two years ago. I honestly don't know what I'd do without it. But there are plenty of those who have not yet been and have questions about it. Here are my responses.
So last night, as I was kneeling to say my prayer before bed and reflecting on these things, I suddenly felt so happy about where I am and randomly ("randomly") told my Heavenly Father, "Thank you so much for the talents that you have given me. I love them and appreciate them."
“I didn't see the big tragedies [coming] that have happened in my life. ... So, couldn’t the opposite be true?”
President Monson is dear to many. In all of his Church callings, President Monson has inspired many with his valiant example of selfless service and love for others. And wouldn't it be wonderful if we could personally share how his life and service has influenced our own?
A few years ago I signed up for a marathon.
Journal writing. Probably one in 400 people do it, yet we are told by leaders of the Church it is something we should be doing. Why? Because we are a record-keeping people, of course. I mean, how fun is it to look back at journal entries after years and remember special experiences you probably would have forgotten about?
Does it ever feel difficult to find time to nurture your marriage amidst the hustle and bustle of life? You are not alone. The trend in our society seems to be moving toward adding more and more things to our schedules. Whether it is taking care of the kids, work commitments, driving the kids to the sports practices and music lessons, church responsibilities, or school, just thinking about it all makes me tired!
“You go to church services for 3 hours every week?” I was asked incredulously by a dental patient the other day. He knew I was a Mormon and asked about our Sunday services. “I sure do,” I answered with a smile “and those 3 hours are some of the best of the entire week“. He rolled his eyes and smiled. I could see him holding back a skeptical or sarcastic reply. He also probably didn’t want to antagonize the guy who was getting ready to do some work on his teeth.
First let me just say, I’m sorry you’re hurting. Getting denied admittance to any college hurts, but there is a special sting when that college is owned by your Church. Though your Instagram feed may be flooded by #byubound posts please know you are not alone. There are thousands of kids who are quietly hurting just like you.
