After a historic weekend where President Nelson met with Pope Francis and all 15 apostles attended the Rome Italy Temple dedication, the First Presidency and members of the Quorum of the Twelve shared beautiful testimonies of the Savior on social media.

When we struggle with our confidence and self-perception, we often feel as though we don’t have many choices, that our options are limited. But when we gain God’s Perspective, we begin to see the bounty of opportunities before us.

Faith, Forgiveness, and Hope for the Future

March of 1945, nearing the end of WWII, the Americans were preparing to cross the Rhine River into Germany’s heartland, the most direct route to Berlin. It was expected to be one of the bloodiest battles of the war. The Nazis said the river would run red with blood, and after the causalities of D-day, the Allies believed them.

This marvelous lesson focuses on the blessings, lessons, covenants, and power of the temple in our lives. Our temples truly are “symbols of all we hold dear.” They are physical buildings in mortality that give us access to our most prized covenants for eternity.

I offer the following suggestions on benefits we may be missing from this wonderful personal counsel from God.

Books, articles, and numerous Internet websites work to undermine faith in Joseph Smith’s first vision, but historically there have been just three main arguments against it. The minister to whom Joseph reported the event responded that there were no such things these days. More than a century later and in a literary style that masked her weakness in following the historical method, Fawn Brodie wrote that Joseph invented the vision years after he said it happened. A generation later, Wesley Walters charged Joseph with inventing revivalism when, Walters claimed, a lack of historical evidence proved that there was none and therefore there was no subsequent vision as a result. By now it has become a foregone conclusion for some that there are no such things as visions, that Joseph failed to mention his experience for years, and that he then gave conflicting accounts that failed to match historical facts. 1 But these three claims assume much more than they prove.

Eva Witesman is best-known for her 2017 BYU Devotional address entitled: "Women and Education: 'A Future Only God Could See for You.'" In the address, Eva challenges the idea that there is only one path for Latter-day Saint women and that we each have spiritual gifts that only need to be accessed. Witesman was prompted to trust the Holy Ghost in her decision-making process, when she received an unexpected message while being set apart for a calling. Witesman put her faith in the message and set on her own path, even if it was very different from those around her. In this week's episode, All In host Morgan Jones talks with Witesman about how to access these spiritual gifts, what might be holding you back, and using the spirit to discover your own path.
