In 1973, Kim Roberts was serving as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas North Mission. Because the mission had enjoyed an influx of newer missionaries, then-Elder Roberts and his companion were asked to travel the mission and provide some hands-on training. Six months before the end of Roberts' mission, their travels took them to Denison, a small city 75 miles north of Dallas.
There were no protesters to be found outside NYC’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre on 49th St. yesterday evening. Ordinarily, that information wouldn’t be news, but last night wasn’t quite an ordinary occasion: It was the first preview performance of The Book of Mormon, the new musical by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez. (Check out EW’s Q&A with them in this week’s issue.) An irreverent tuner about two Mormon missionaries in poverty-stricken Uganda, Mormon has been touted as the most potentially obscene production to ever grace the Great White Way. Volunteers have been working with local government agencies to assemble 10,000 food kits and 8,200 hygiene kits. Three Mormon meetinghouses have been used as shelters. To date, the Church has provided 100,000 pounds of supplies — including food, water, blankets, hygiene kits and tools — to the relief effort.
At least five people participated in vocally opposing the leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The group, Any Opposed?, encouraged members in good standing who oppose the leadership of the Church to attend the Saturday afternoon session of conference and when the opposing vote is asked for, to stand with the hand raised to the square and say “opposed.” The group also encouraged participants to “bring a letter addressing your reasons for voting opposed so that you will have something to give to a church representative if given that opportunity.”

Ever wondered how to start a talk? There are many common ways members start sacrament meeting talks. We have all heard and probably done at least a couple of them. After asking what are the most popular ways people start LDS sacrament talks, this is what we came up with.
Think of these women in the scriptures as a girlfriend telling you her story.
