Ogden Utah Temple (Rededication set for September 21, 2014)

I was called as the mission president of the France Bordeaux Mission in 1989, and we arrived in Bordeaux in the month of July. The mission was just opening, and we were the first family to live in the mission home, which was still being furnished when we arrived. The mission home needed a piano, and we were encouraged to visit local music stores to find one. It seemed with each store we entered, seeing our missionary tags with the name of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the proprietor of the store would say, “I know one of your members, Philippe Moreau.” Philippe was a concert pianist of some reputation in Bordeaux, and I was impressed that he was so open about his beliefs. I expected to meet him soon. When we did not meet him, I asked the leaders in Bordeaux about Philippe Moreau. Their countenances saddened at the question, and they informed me that he was no longer a member of the Church. They explained that he had joined the Church in his late teens and had been a fervent disciple of the Savior, but then had moved away from the Savior’s teachings.

Additional renderings have been released showing designs for the new Pocatello Idaho Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints honored the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Saturday night for the organization’s commitment to advancing equality and justice in society.

Future BYU basketball player Nick Emery is headed back to Germany to finish his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Emery took to Twitter to make the announcement:

On Monday afternoon, some social media users noticed a definition of Mormonism on Google that misrepresented the beliefs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Eastern Arizona Courierrecently carried a photograph by Diane Drobka showing the Frye fire in Arizona raging behind the LDS Gila Valley Arizona Temple. According to the Eastern Arizona Courier, the fire has grown to over 29,000 acres as of Friday, contributing to the numerous wildfires in Arizona that have caused the governor to declare a state of emergency.

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced groundbreakings for the Bentonville Arkansas Temple and the McAllen Texas Temple. Renderings of the temples have also been released.
