President Oaks Dedicates the 161st Temple in Barranquilla Colombia
The Barranquilla Colombia Temple was formally dedicated Sunday, December 9, 2018, in three sessions by President Dallin H. Oaks, first counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The dedicatory sessions were broadcast to congregations of the Church within the temple district.

The Salt Lake Temple sits among dozens of carefully lighted white and red trees, including the Cedar of Lebanon (the red tree shown in this image). While December is the darkest month of the year, the season is celebrated with light, a reminder of the light and hope Christ brought with him when he came into the world. For 48 years, the lights at Temple Square have reminded us of this reason for the season. But whether or not lights are a part of your holiday traditions, you can celebrate Christ's light with these gorgeous photos taken at this year's Temple Square lights display.

BYU's Forgotten Basketball Champions

On June 7, 1950, the Brigham Young University men’s basketball team boarded a United Airlines DC-3 in Salt Lake City. Fifty-six hours and five layovers later, the team arrived in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Their mission: bring exposure to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and BYU by playing basketball games at night and hosting clinics and Church firesides in the afternoon. And wear their sweat suits to identify themselves, which had been tailored to read “Mormons” instead of “Cougars.”

I recently sat with a number of members of the Community of Christ, previously known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, as part of an interfaith dialogue. I have great love and respect for these people, those I consider brothers and sisters in the faith. We talked openly and in a friendly manner about similarities and differences between our two churches and landed squarely on the topic of women and the priesthood. One of the women in the room who had been ordained to the priesthood described her responsibilities and shared her feelings regarding the blessing it was for her to be able to perform priesthood ordinances.
