The 2012 Mutual theme is a call to leadership, said Sister Elaine S. Dalton, Young Women general president. The theme — "Arise and shine forth, that thy light may be a standard for the nations" (Doctrine and Covenants 115:5) — comes from a revelation given through the Prophet Joseph Smith at Far West, Mo., in 1838.

This weeks study group we dig into Doctrine and Covenants 102–105 that is all about building up Zion, and what sort of finagling is involved in helping us become one, together.

A native of the west side of the Salt Lake Valley, Saley is the oldest of 4 siblings and keeps her family JOYful! As a baby, she received the nickname “Silly Sally Saley” from her grandpa which became her manifest destiny. She is full of light, laughter, and silly antics, and knows how to find joy for herself and bring it to those around her. She found her greatest joy as she grew to know Jesus while serving as a missionary in the Columbia South Carolina Mission at the tail end of the pandemic. Saley is a student at Utah Valley University exploring all the options that life might bring and learning what it means to be responsible and independent, all while learning to manage ADHD which was diagnosed during her freshman year of college. She loves to dance in the kitchen..in the family room…at the beach…oh, and on the stage. Spending time with her besties and her family brings her joy. She also enjoys reading, traveling, hand-designing on her iPad Pro, and working in Distribution Services at Deseret Book, helping people to prepare to make sacred covenants.

Kendra grew up in Salt Lake City, and after a semester at Ricks College, she volunteered to teach English in Russia through a program called ILP. After serving a mission in Utica, NY, an experience that deepened her love for service and teaching, she married her best friend and supported him in his military service while raising 5 children. Driven to continue her education, she completed her bachelor’s degree through Pathways during the challenges of COVID, embodying her belief in lifelong learning and resilience.

A few years ago, Sister Patricia Holland passed unexpectantly. She was a powerful disciple in her own right, standing as an example and witness that God lives, that He loves us, that and keeping our focus on Him is the sure path to everlasting joy. Her daughter, Mary Alice McCann, wanted to make sure that her children and grandchildren knew what kind of blood was in their veins, so she compiled and carefully selected Sister Holland’s thoughts and teachings into a beautiful book called An Eye Single: Thoughts and Teachings from Patricia T. Holland. She joins this episode along with Michelle Torsak, executive director of content at Deseret Book, as they reflect on the powerful force for good that was Patricia T. Holland.
