Perhaps the most spectacular city in the Maya world is that of Tikal, located in the Peten Jungle of Guatemala. Dozens of pyramids and housing complexes spread over a vast area. The Temple of the Jaguars rises steeply to a small temple topped with a high roof comb. From the summit of Temple IV you can see for miles in every direction. Piercing the jungle canopy, the peaks of decaying pyramids, like spent volcanoes, rise out of a panoramic sea of thick, green foliage. On every visit, I climb as many of these Mayan mountains I can, saving the oldest, the Lost World Pyramid, for last. It is not crowned with a temple, and is not as high as its brothers, but it dates to Book of Mormon times and its simplicity is compelling. From its summit the broad expanse of sky dominates the green world below. Had I heard Samuel the Lamanite’s five-year prophecy from the walls of Zarahemla, I would have come to a place such as this on that night two thousand years ago, when this same sky was lit by a sun other than the one I see settling into the cebia trees in the west. On that night it was lit by the light of the son of God.

In a recently released leadership training video, members of the Seventy and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles discussed the importance of keeping the Sabbath day holy and making sacrament meeting more meaningful. A shortened version of that meeting was then sent out to stake leaders to share with individual ward councils.

A beautiful blanket of white covered the graying world, gathering light from the full moon and reflecting it up to make the night bright. It was perfectly silent outside, the snow absorbing all the noise and leaving only a feeling of breathtaking awe.

A few months ago, I received a strong impression to write on a specific topic. It was a welcome revelation, because as far as my writing has gone, it has seemed that God has had no strong feelings on what I should write. I know He cares about my hobbies and interests, of course, but as I’ve prayed about what to write in recent years, passing ideas by Him or asking for direction, it’s almost been as though His answer has been, “Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. You could do that. Whatever you feel you want to do is fine with me.”

I am seventeen weeks pregnant when the complications begin. This is our fourth baby, so I recognize the contractions immediately when they start. For three days and three nights I time the constant rhythm and I worry. There have been complications with every pregnancy—with each of the three babies we held on to before this pregnancy, and with each of the pregnancies we lost. I know what these contractions mean. The chance of loss, the months of bed rest ahead. We have been through this before.

“Thankfully, God has a plan.” This favorite phrase of Maggie Scott, wife of former evangelical pastor Tom Scott, has seen the Utah couple through a most unexpected spiritual journey.

By profession, I am a teacher. I teach choir to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Given all that happens in middle school, singing can be a challenge. You have changing voices (or, worse for some kids: unchanging voices), the pressure to look cool, shifting social landscapes, evolving relationships with members of the opposite sex, and on and on. All of these things can make singing extremely difficult.

LDS 12-year-old Jude Stamper was drafted by the Michigan basketball team with Team IMPACT earlier this season. Though born with a joint disorder called arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, he is now heading to the Final Four with his team. “They have embraced him. Coach Beilein absolutely loves him and he tells him that. He tells him he is a light in their lives,” said his mom, Courtney Stamper. “They have fully opened their doors not only to Jude, but our family.”
