During the busy Easter season, it can feel difficult to intentionally carve out time to teach your kids about the Savior. Maria Eckersley felt the same way, so she created Teaching Easter: 15 Hands-on Lessons to Help You Study, Teach, and Delight in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This book is designed to help you create meaningful, Christ-centered moments at home and in the classroom.

No more searching for last-minute ideas or the perfect scripture to go with your Easter lessons. This self-contained resource puts everything you need in one place, with scriptures, teaching hints, and step-by-step instructions included.

An All-in-One Easter Resource

Maria originally created some of these activities for her own children a few years ago, when she was looking for ways to keep Christ at the center of her family’s Easter. Because she understands firsthand how overwhelming this season can feel, she designed the book to be simple and easy to apply.

Each of the 15 chapters is built as a stand-alone experience, so you can flip anywhere in the book for a fun, approachable object lesson. Every chapter includes these key components:

  • An introduction: details where and when Jesus Christ shared this chapter’s teaching, including any relevant scripture passages
  • A closer look: shares insight about how to apply this teaching to your life
  • Restored connections: includes recent general conference quotes and restored scripture passages to give you a more fleshed-out understanding of each teaching
  • Inspired activity: features a hands-on object lesson with step-by-step, photo-based instructions to accompany the Savior’s teaching from the chapter
  • Teaching tips: helps you adjust the topic, activity, and discussion questions depending on the age of the children participating and the setting

Some lessons feature paper crafts, with all of the needed materials ready for you in the back of the book.

Ideas for Using Teaching Easter

Teaching Easter purposefully doesn’t follow a set schedule, so you can incorporate the resource however you feel is best. Here are a few ideas:

  1. Family Easter countdown: Each day leading up to Easter, do one of the activities with your children.
  2. Primary or Youth activity: Use an object lesson as a hands-on way to teach your class about the Savior.
  3. Sunday tradition: Keep the book with a few supplies for the activities in an easily accessible place and pull it out on Sundays when you need a fun and meaningful Sabbath activity.
  4. Thoughtful Easter gift: This book could make a great gift for parents of young children, for grandparents, or for teachers looking for creative gospel resources.
