The new prophet, President Dallin H. Oaks, and his counselors answered questions in their first press interview as a First Presidency, published Thursday, October 16.

When asked by journalist Jane Clayson Johnson if there’s one phrase he would like members of the Church to carry with them right now as he begins his prophetic ministry, President Oaks responded,

“Jesus Christ is the way.”

He continued,

“That is taught in five, at least five, different important scriptures in the Book of Mormon. And I'll read you one from the sermon of King Benjamin. ... ‘And moreover, I say unto you, that there shall be no other name given nor any other way, nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent.’”

First counselor, President Henry B. Eyring, echoed President Oaks’s sentiments, saying, “My feeling is exactly as what's been said. Jesus is the Christ, and He lives, and He watches over and loves us. And I know that is true.”

President D. Todd Christofferson, second counselor, then shared his testimony of Jesus Christ, “He is the Savior. He is the son of God, and He is resurrected. And for me, the fact of His resurrection is the proof of His power to fulfill all of His promises. It's the proof of who He is.”
