Andy Reid, head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, will join The Tabernacle Choir as a guest narrator for two special performances of Music & the Spoken Word on Sunday, July 5, 2026. The live events will honor America’s 250th anniversary and feature patriotic music and messages.

Coach Reid’s history with the choir spans decades, and he even once conducted a song during a performance in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The three-time Super Bowl champion recently reflected on this memorable moment during a podcast episode with Music & the Spoken Word host Derrick Porter.

Comparable to Winning a Super Bowl

In 2003, Reid was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. That summer, the Tabernacle Choir traveled to the East Coast for a special tour, performing at Philadelphia’s Mann Center.

Coach Reid says the idea for him to conduct the choir came from his wife, Tammy. “She volunteered me to do that,” he explains. “I was a little leery—she’s the one that’s got the musical talents, not me.”

Ultimately, Coach Reid says he agreed to the suggestion, and the choir learned his team’s fight song, “Fly, Eagles Fly” (“The Eagles’ Victory Song”).

Despite navigating hot temperatures and feeling out of his element, Coach Reid describes conducting the choir as one of the “thrills” of his life:

“I got up there in a black outfit when it [felt like] 150 degrees outside and the humidity was matching that. But they actually allowed me to stand up before them and conduct them.

“It was beautiful, really one of the highlights of my life. … You [could] compare this to what you do when you win a Super Bowl. I mean, it was just that exciting.”

When the Deseret News interviewed him about how he got ready for the performance, he simply shared, “I had some good coaching.”
