During the Saturday evening session of the April 2024 general conference, the Utah Valley Institute Choir sang “Amazing Grace” as the final number, marking the first time this piece has been performed at a televised general conference.
The Utah Valley Institute Choir commented on the Church’s Instagram post about the performance:
“We are so proud to be involved in the conference debut of this historic song, and we hope that everyone watching felt the spirit alongside our choir members. Thank you so much for this opportunity!”
“It’s a perfect marriage of text and tune,” Mack Wilberg, music director of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, previously told the Associated Press. “It just resonates in a way that few other hymns do.”
As we reflect on this beloved hymn, we wanted to revisit the Tabernacle Choir’s stirring rendition filmed on the banks of the Missouri River.
The music video has resonated with viewers long after its original publication date in 2014. Recent YouTube commenters wrote:
“Exquisite arrangement of a very old classic. Beautifully done.”
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart [original comment in Japanese].”
“Beautiful, it sounds like the heavens are opening up [original comment in Spanish].”
“Very beautiful interpretation and magnificent images [original comment in French].”
