Visiting teaching. In years past, these two words spoken in any Relief Society gathering evoked a myriad of conflicting emotions. Joy. Guilt. Gratitude. Annoyance. Peace. Guilt. Excitement. Frustration. Love. Guilt. Some loved the watchcare program set forth nearly 200 years ago—others, not so much. And most of us, whether we loved it or not, have carried some guilt associated with it. But now, no more guilt, and as of April 1, 2018, no more visiting teaching.
In the final question of the second presidential debate, Romney chose to focus on his Mormon faith. He said, "My passion probably flows from the fact that I believe in God. And I believe we're all children of the same God. I believe we have a responsibility to care for one another. I — I served as a missionary for my church. I served as a pastor in my congregation for about 10 years. I've sat across the table from people who were out of work and worked with them to try and find new work or to help them through tough times." I'm also a Mormon, and the statement struck me because, when given a final opportunity to paint a clear picture of himself for the American people, Romney chose to focus on his faith above all else.
Stealing, pain, screaming, heartbreak. How do you come to forgive those who hurt you the deepest, those who were meant to love and protect you?
Mother’s Day is only celebrated one day out of 365, but how can we give Mom a gift that says “I love you” all year long? Here are a few of our favorite ideas:
Following the release of the second volume of the manuscript history of the Church online, the Joseph Smith Papers website has now added to its collection a dozen new documents relating to early Latter-day Saint history and Joseph Smith’s personal life. The new documents, dated from 1829 to 1838, are owned by Community of Christ, which made the document images available under a licensing agreement with the project.
As a Mormon boy, Daniel C. Peterson grew up hearing stories about the persecution of his ancestors, beginning with his great-great-great-great-grandfather, who was chased out of Missouri, then Illinois, before he died trekking across the Great Plains to reach this rugged land.As a graduate student at the University of California, Los Angeles, he was stunned to discover fellow students talking about his religion behind his back. He said he “felt like a curiosity” when they asked, “Are you really a Mormon?”
Like many students at Brigham Young University-Idaho, Schada Alkamari felt spiritually drawn to the religious university. But the Moroccan citizen didn’t enroll to immerse herself in the Mormon faith. She came to BYU-Idaho, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to reaffirm her own religious beliefs.
Sometimes we may experience moments of spiritual distress, but that doesn't mean we have to experience those moments alone.
There's nothing like life in a large family. Everything is bigger and more when you've got a gaggle of kids living under one roof: the messes, the love, the noise, the stares from strangers.
The crisp, fragrant fall air has us all enjoying the bounty of the harvest and looking forward to the holidays ahead. Along with the holidays come the many family recipes that we enjoy as traditions and comfort foods. Certainly, you will be taking stock of your kitchen and making sure you have the food prep tools necessary to get you through the next few months. As you think about updating or replacing some of your much needed food preparation tools, don’t forget to think about the items you could use for your preparedness pantry, too! For example, I’m a sucker for the aroma of fresh baked bread on a cool fall day. I’ll be using my electric wheat grinder quite a bit in the next few months. As I use my electric mill, I should certainly make sure that I’ve got something available to me should the electricity be turned off. A hand grain mill would be something I should certainly consider for preparedness food preparation.
